Sections of two popular Snoqualmie parks will be off-limits for months due to damage from car-driving vandals.

Vehicles traversed snow-covered fields at Centennial Fields Park, 39903 S.E. Park St., in the wake of the November and December snowstorms. The fields are irrigated and carefully groomed for the many sports leagues that play there in the spring into early winter.

At Snoqualmie Point Park, 37580 S.E. Winery Rd., vehicles crossed into pedestrian-only areas and tore up the grassy pad commonly rented for weddings during the spring, summer and fall.

Snoqualmie Parks & Recreation Department is assessing the damage and will repair the fields in the spring. It may take many weeks for the damaged areas to regrow to be suitable for sports activities and weddings.

Those damaged areas will not be available for other citizens to use during the time of regrowth, including the hundreds of children who play soccer and football in Snoqualmie.

Parks officials urge residents who witness someone driving on an athletic field to call 9-1-1. If possible, callers should note the license plate number, make, model and color of the car.
