Kidney centers brings 15 jobs

SNOQUALMIE – Northwest Kidney Centers, which provides outpatient dialysis services at 10 facilities in Western Washington, announced last week that it will become the first tenant of Quadrant Corp.’s Trailside Building on Snoqualmie Ridge.

The Seattle-based non-profit organization signed a seven-year lease for 7,500 square feet of space, and the new center is expected to open by October. It will provide dialysis services to patients with kidney failure.

Ingrid Goodwin, a spokeswoman for Northwest Kidney Centers, said new centers typically have eight to 10 dialysis stations, with each dialysis treatment lasting three to five hours. She said patients are referred to the centers by their doctors, and they usually have three dialysis treatments a week.

Because dialysis treatments last so long, Goodwin said having a center in the Valley will make it more convenient for patients to access services, adding, “That’s an area that’s in great need of a center closer for patients.”

Palmer Pollock, planning administrator for Northwest Kidney Centers, said easy access to the nearby interstate and other highways made the Snoqualmie Ridge location a logical choice.

“We chose Snoqualmie Ridge Business Park because of its great access to Interstate 90 and state routes 18 and 202,” he said. “The new facility will be much more convenient to our patients that live in the greater Snoqualmie and North Bend areas, and will help ease their already time-intensive dialysis process.

“We also get the best of both worlds by opening our facility in a growing community like Snoqualmie Ridge, which is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Northwest.”

The new Northwest Kidney Centers’ location will join a growing stable of businesses on Snoqualmie Ridge, including Optiva Corp., The Inception Group and Great Plains Software Inc.

More than 15 employees will work at the facility when it opens, and that number could grow to 30 within the next three years.

Northwest Kidney Centers was founded in 1962 in Seattle and provided the world’s first out-of-hospital dialysis treatments. Over the years, the organization has grown to encompass 10 locations, from Auburn to Port Angeles, as well as a distribution center in Seattle. It provides services for more than 1,100 patients each year.

The Trailside Building, located next to Optiva, has 43,000 square feet of space.
