Tom Kite became the first two-time winner in the short history of the Boeing Classic last Sunday, as he rallied from behind for a two-shot victory.

Kite shot a solid round of 66 to finish at 202 for the event, which translated into a 14-under-par score, beating out Scott Simpson, who had come into Sunday’s final round with the lead in the tournament, held at the Tournament Players Course on Snoqualmie Ridge. Kite previously won this tournament, an event on the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Champions Tour for pro men 50 and over, in 2006. The tournament has been on the Champions schedule for four years.

John Cook finished in third at 11 under, three shots back, while Mark Wiebe closed out a solid tournament in fourth overall at 10 under par, four strokes behind the winner.

The tour pros head now to Pebble Beach, Calif., for their next event, which starts later this week.

Another Boeing Classic tradition continued Friday with the flyover of a Boeing 777 airplane. The jetliner cruised over the Valley, flying at an altitude of about 1,000 feet, and soared over spectators at the TPC to mark the start of the Champions Tournament. The jetliner’s low flight had several people contacting the Record to find out what the buzz was about.
