Boxley’s in North Bend will be closing soon, manager Danny Kolke announced.
Kolke and his wife, Robyn, opened the popular live music venue and restaurant nearly seven years ago in the historic McGrath Hotel building, on North Bend Way and Main .
Boxley’s has been the home of live music in the Valley, featuring student musicians weekly, famed jazz performers and serving as a venue for the North Bend Jazz Walk coming up on April 23 and the Blues Walk set for this fall.
“It has been an incredible experience, however it has not been a profitable one,” Kolke wrote in his announcement.
Closing or selling the restaurant — no firm time frame has been set for either — will allow Kolke to focus on his passion for music. The restaurant inspired Boxley’s Music Fund/Jazz Clubs NW, a non-profit that has funded much of the live music at Boxley’s. The music fund has been growing and launching jazz festivals in other communities, including Tacoma and Bellingham. It will continue to bring live music to the North Bend area, as well.
“Our strategy going forward will be to focus on music programming and look to partner with restaurateurs and other venues that are as passionate about their business as we are about music.” Kolke wrote. “We will partner with them, continuing to provide music on a regular basis.”
None of the changes are expected in the immediate future.
“We are still doing the North Bend Jazz Walk this April 23. We are still doing the Blues Walk in September and still going to be sponsoring music until we make the big change,” he wrote.
