Construction work on the city of Carnation’s first traffic signal is nearly complete, and the city plans to activate the light, at the intersection of Tolt Avenue and Entwistle Street, at 9 a.m. Thursday Dec. 15.

Retiring councilman Stuart Lisk will flip the switch to activate the signal as one of his last acts in city government. Representatives from the city, county, state, Snoqualmie Tribe and school district are invited to participate in a small public ceremony just before that happens.

The installation of this signal has been a priority of the city for more than 10 years, to allow pedestrians to safely cross SR 203 and to allow Entwistle traffic to safely turn onto or cross SR 203.  Funding for the project was provided by the Transportation Improvement Board (TIB),  the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) through the Snoqualmie Tribe and project management provided through King County.

Another component of the overall project was the installation of a pedestrian-activated crossing signal at the intersection of Tolt Avenue and Morrison Street. A grant from the WSDOT Safe Routes to School program helped fund this crossing, used by students attending Carnation Elementary School.
