Standing-room only was a theme Saturday evening in North Bend, where more than 200 musicians and more than 1,600 fans packed into 20 venues for a night of jazz.
Top of the list for many people to get into was Boxley’s, open for its last night. There, performers Tony Foster and Boxley Music Fund founder and event organizer Danny Kolke traded spots at the grand piano for the first show, followed by the Boxley’s Pro-Am Big Band, a 16-piece combo that closed out the night.
The scene was similar throughout the city.
At The Swirl, the mostly-high-school-aged audience lined the walls, waiting for a table as high-school-aged performers from the Will Crandell Project and the Max Cannella Quartet filled the shop with music.
People who hiked the ramp to Compass Outdoor Adventures, on the second floor of the Sunset Garage building, were rewarded with the music of the Cole Schuster Trio, accompanied by Katy Bourne.
Those who made their way into Twede’s enjoyed Janette West’s smoky voice.
Over at the Mount Si Senior Center, Lance Buller sang and schmoozed, urging the crowd to make some noise, while audience favorite Kelly Eisenhour, onstage at Chang Thai, envied the performance of the dancers on the floor.
The Jazz Walk is organized by the Boxley Music Fund/Jazz Clubs NW. Although Boxley’s Restaurant is closing, the work that started there with the music fund will continue with annual Jazz Walks in the spring, Blues Walks in the fall and expanded musical offerings throughout the year.
