Rescuers worked for more than half an hour to revive a man in his 20s who fell into the Snoqualmie River near Fall City Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 7, but to no avail.

Teams from Fall City Fire District, Snoqualmie, Sammamish, Bellevue fire departments, Eastside Fire and Rescue and the King County Sheriff’s Department pulled the man from the water around 5 p.m. near the 32800 block of Highway 202, after searching the river and both banks. The initial call for help to Fall City said two men were in the water, but one never came back up.

As onlookers lined the steep south bank of the river, rescuers found the man underwater in the middle of the river, and pulled him onto the north bank. Emergency teams used CPR and other methods to revive him. At one point, a firefighter rushed down to the stony beach with extra air tanks to help.

At least one would-be onlooker jumped in the river to try to save the man.

“I was in tears,” said Kate Mardon of Fall City, who brought her child to play soccer at nearby Fall City Park, and watched revival efforts. She said her husband and seven-year-old child went fishing the day before, and she had urged them to be careful.

The last thing the Valley needs is another drowning, Mardon said.
