Members named to community center task force Group exploring Snoqualmie center

Snoqualmie City Council members and city employees are being appointed to a task force exploring a possible community center.

Snoqualmie City Council members and city employees are being appointed to a task force exploring a possible community center.

The Community Center Task Force is a group that investigates and determines options for developing a community center in Snoqualmie. Options may include a possible partnership with a non-profit agency, whether to take the issue of a bond to voters or build a facility with the funds currently set aside for the project, and construction factors such as building in phases.

At a recent city council meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Jeff MacNichols nominated council members Maria Henriksen and Bryan Holloway to participate on the task force. Both accepted the roles. Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson will appoint two city Parks Board members, who will serve as community representatives. He will also appoint two city staff members, one of which will be Al Frank, director of Parks and Recreation. The YMCA will appoint two representatives to the task force to consider the possibility of project partnership. Additional information can be found in the ‘Mayor’s Report’ on the May 12 city council agenda on the city Web site, http://www.ci.snoqualmie.wa.us/CouncilAgendas/tabid/384/Default.aspx.

The city has been pursuing a new community center, with the possibility of including a swimming pool, at a Snoqualmie Ridge location for the past several years.
