Fall efforts by the creative minds in the Snoqualmie Middle School Art Club are up for viewing – and for sale – in the student group’s first-ever art show.
The SMS Art Club hosts its first annual art show this month, with an opening reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Isadora’s Books & Cafe, 8062 Railroad Ave. S.E., Sno-qualmie. The group’s works will hang at Isadora’s through Dec. 13.
Art for sale is themed around autumn, Thanksgiv-ing and the spirit of giving.
Proceeds from the show will support a field trip by art club members to visit a museum or other art venue in the Puget Sound area.
“This group has never done a field trip out in the community,” said SMS art instructor Ruth Huschle. “Some of them have never been to a Seattle art museum.”
“Maybe we could try to do some of the old styles,” said Taylor Wiles, an eighth-grade art club member.
She is excited about visiting the Seattle Asian Art Museum and learning some of the techniques of the old masters.
Also, part of the proceeds will be used to buy art supplies for an orphanage in the African nation of Ghana.
An SMS student visited Ghana this fall and brought back information about the orphanage.
