Moms support group forms in Valley

The MOMS Club, a non-profit international support group for at-home mothers, is starting a new chapter in the North Bend area this month.

“It can be extremely hard for stay-at-home moms to get out of the house and meet each other,” said Brenna Vukovich, founder and president of the new group. “The MOMS Club allows these at-home mothers to get together in a supportive atmosphere.”

What makes the group unique, aside from the fact that it is the only international organization specifically for at-home mothers, is the wide range of activities allowed.

Vukovich said the group plans to have monthly meetings with interesting speakers and topics for discussions, park play days, field trips, holiday activities and service projects benefiting children in the community.

The local club will sponsor special activity groups that will allow members to share similar interests. Typical activity groups include play groups for infants, toddlers or preschoolers, babysitting co-ops, a monthly Moms Night Out, exercise groups, coffee get-togethers, cooking, book clubs and arts and crafts.

“Whatever mothers are interested in, we’re able to do,” Vukovich said.

Because the MOMS Club is a support group specifically for moms at home, whether full-time, part-time, or working from home, all meetings are held during the day and mothers may bring children to anything the club does.

“We don’t believe that a mom should be isolated just because she has children,” Vukovich said.

“Mothers who stay home often can’t, or won’t, leave their children with a sitter during the day,” she added. “Therefore, children are welcome at anything we do.”
