Multiple construction projects cause traffic congestion in Snoqualmie

Construction on I-90 near Issaquah and the SR 18 interchange have caused significant delays

Several road construction projects have led to massive traffic congestion around Snoqualmie this week.

Yesterday, June 19, residents reported trips between North Bend and Snoqualmie taking up to 30 minutes, as backup along State Route 202 stretched From Fall City past Mount Si High School. The congestion comes as several construction projects are happening simultaneously on I-90 near Snoqualmie.

There is currently a 24/7 lane reduction on westbound I-90 between Issaquah and Preston. The highway is down to one lane as Washington State Department of Transportation crews complete bridge decking repairs. Yesterday, WSDOT said in a Tweet that the closure led to a five mile back-up stretching all the way to State Route 18. All lanes are expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Sunday, June 25.

On top of that, there is ongoing construction at the I-90/SR 18 interchange near Snoqualmie Ridge. Crews are working to install a diverging diamond interchange that is expected to reduce congestion and traffic collisions.

Construction on the Snoqualmie Parkway Rehabilitation project is also expected to begin today (June 20), but city officials say traffic impacts will be minimal. Crews aren’t expected to begin major repaving work until July 31.

A city spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
