OLYMPIA – A bill that would earmark funds to study the scope and cost of building a highway that could run through the Snoqualmie Valley will be voted on this week by the state Senate.

State Senate Bill 5941, sponsored by state senators Jim Horn, Dan Swecker, Mary Margaret Haugen, Bob Oke and Paul Shin, would fund a Department of Transportation study that would finish up sometime late this year or early next year.

“This is one further step to look into our future,” said Horn, a senator from Mercer Island and chair of the Senate’s Highway and Transportation Committee.

The proposed highway, referred to as the “Washington Commerce Corridor” in the bill, would run from Lewis County north to the Canadian border. The bill also stipulates that it would be situated west of the Cascade Mountains and east of Interstate 405.
