A planned levee setback project on the South Fork Snoqualmie between North Bend Way and the Nintendo building in North Bend gained partial funding last month.
The $14 million flood control project could be in line to receive a lot more funding too, as city staff got authorization to pursue another grant application.
On Sept. 13, the North Bend City Council authorized acceptance of $125,000 for the project, in a Cooperative Watershed Management grant from the King County Flood Control District. The city council also authorized staff to submit a $300,000 grant application to the Salmon Recovery Funding Board, for the same project.
“We are applying for many, many grants,” said Mayor Ken Hearing. He asked Public Works Director Mark Rigos to describe some of the other grant applications, which included a $7 million application to King County and a $7 million application to the state Department of Ecology.
Several council members praised city staff for their efforts to secure project funding.
The levee setback project is targeted for 2018 or 2019 in the city’s six-year Transportation Improvement Plan, Rigos added.
