One person has been arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide, in connection with an eight-vehicle collision on Interstate 90 this morning that killed two people and closed westbound lanes all day.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at milepost 51, involving two semi-trucks and trailers, one of which was a car carrier.

Washington State Patrol Troopers believe the driver of the car carrier was traveling westbound and lost control before veering across all lanes of traffic and coming to rest in the roadway. This caused a “chain reaction” of collisions which blocked the freeway for several hours.

Two people traveling in a passenger car died at the scene. Five subjects were transported to Overlake Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, including the driver of the car carrier. A drug-recognition expert trooper contacted the driver later, determined that the driver was under the influence of drugs.  The collision is being investigated as one collision and not two separate collisions as previously reported.

The westbound lanes re-opened shortly after 3 p.m.
