Opstad Elementary PTA awards a total of $12,668 in grants

Opstad’s PTA awarded $7,750 in grants to teachers at the beginning of the school year. These grants were funded primarily by the schools’ annual Walk-A-Thon, which is their largest fundraiser. This fundraiser brings in anywhere from $45,000 to $55,000 each year to enhance every student’s education, such as the first grade Science Toy Workshop, second grade Pioneer Day, thrd grade Interactive History, fourth grade trip to Camp Waskowitz and fifth grade camp.

It also funds art enrichment, educational assemblies, the music and physical education department, as well as reading and math support, and family activities.

Another grant of $4,918 was awarded to Opstad’s gym for improving all basketball equipment (including backboards and balls) and the outdoor play areas.  This grant was earned by the Hops for Hoops fundraiser and the box tops collections.
