• Snoqualmie Valley voters said “yes” in strong numbers to school levies in both local school districts. Al three levies in Snoqualmie Valley School District 410 and the single levy in Lower Snoqualmie Valley School District 407 passed with more than 70 percent approval.

• A.E. Downs Co. Inc., of North Bend is up for sale by its major creditor, Rainier Bank, following plant closure Feb. 1. The large cabinet-making and woodworking shop ceased operations because of an “insurmountable” cash flow problem, said Dave Jepson, a Rainier Bank spokesman.

Thursday, Feb. 19, 1954

• Nine Snoqualmie volunteer firemen responded to the alarm at noon Friday, Feb. 13, when the chimney at the Herman Wallace home caught fire. Mrs. Wallace wasn’t alarmed herself, but the neighbors were when they saw the flames shooting a foot and a half out of the chimney. No damaged resulted, firefighters said.

• Mrs. Roy H. Cottam and daughter Debbie went to Tacoma Saturday to visit with the Lloyd Flensburgs. In the evening, they took Dee to a dance with them. A particularly well-polished floor was Dee’s undoing, and she fell, breaking a small bone in her foot and shattering the large bone. She was brought home Sunday afternoon. Roy had not been told of the accident, and it must have been quite a shock to him when she was carried into the house.

Thursday, Feb. 15, 1934

• Frankie Davis of North Bend recently received a most interesting letter from his old home in Stockton-on-Tees, England, in which his relatives advised that they had been greatly thrilled to hear a broadcast on the radio from Seattle describing the Snoqualmie Valley. They heard descriptions of Carnation Farm and the Snoqualmie Falls Lumber Company.
