• Written complaints have been filed by three citizens against a screening of the R-rated movie “Apocalypse Now” in a Mount Si High School class. Superintendent Gerald Post said that the written complaints will be reviewed by the Snoqualmie Valley School District’s Instructional Materials Selection Committee. “Apocalypse Now” was used in the senior advanced placement English class after students read the book “Heart of Darkness” by Joseph Conrad.

• “Closet doll collectors” have an opportunity to be liberated. Two North Bend women, Carol Shurvington and Diane Maertens, decided to quit playing dolls and get serious, by forming the Snoqualmie Valley Doll Club and beginning a doll business.

Thursday, March 12, 1959

• Tragedy struck swiftly and unmercifully on Sunday evening, when fire destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Babcock and their three children. The fire started near the chimney and spread swiftly. Neighbors came on the run, with the result that most of the furniture was saved.

• Friday was the date set for the Sallal Grange Talent Show tryouts. With several singing groups, vocal duets, instrumental duos, and a variety of dancers, pianists and accordionists in attendance, judges from outside the Valley were hard-pressed to decide the actual contestants for the talent show.

Thursday, March 15, 1934

• The North Bend Sportman’s Club was organized Monday evening at an enthusiastic meeting at the high school, when a live bunch of lovers of the great outdoors gathered to form an organization along the same lines already followed by other King County communities.

• It is reported that the bridge across the Snoqualmie River above the Falls, which has been out of commission for the past four months, will be in place and ready for travel on April 1. Upper Valley people have suffered much inconvenience from the detour.
