When severe winter weather hits, the Snoqualmie Valley School District asks families to hit the Web, make a call or listen up for emergency schedule changes.

Snow, ice, floods and windstorms can delay classes and alter bus routes. When that happens, school schedule decisions will be posted between 5 and 8:30 a.m. on the district Web site, www.svsd410.org, and on the emergency hotline, (425) 831-8494. Parents can also tune in to local radio and television stations or subscribe to messages at www.schoolreport.org.

If there is no message, schools run on a regular schedule.

Parents should check out the “Emergency Information” section of the district Web page for contact information. This year, Valley schools will not be sending home a colored card printed with emergency resources in an effort to save on costs.

Parents should learn their children’s alternate bus route and understand how decisions are typically made.

If an emergency occurs during the school day that necessitates a parent notice, the district will immediately post information on the Web site and update its hotline message.

The district plans to test its emergency call-out system, called School-Messenger, during the first week of November. Parents should make sure their schools have accurate contact information, and review emergency plans with their children.
