Aiming to prevent prescription abuse, police in Snoqualmie and North Bend and the Snoqualmie Tribe are holding the second annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Sno Falls Credit Union,  9025 Meadowbrook Way in Snoqualmie, and the North Bend Park and Ride, at East McClellan Street and Park Street.

National Drug Take Back Day is a venue for persons who want to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs, particularly controlled substances. The service is free and anonymous.

The abuse of prescription drugs is a big problem in communities nationwide. Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

Last year, nearly 100 pounds of medicine was collected in Snoqualmie and North Bend.
