Community members will have a chance to give feedback on the proposed $34.2 million school bond at a public meeting set for Thursday, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mount Si High School.

At the forum, Snoqualmie Valley School District officials will share information about the proposal and how they arrived at it. The board is expected to decide whether to put the bond on the March 10, 2009 ballot at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Nov. 13.

The proposal would attempt to alleviate overcrowding by fully utilizing existing classrooms throughout the district and adding modular classrooms to middle and elementary schools. The proposition also funds repairs and renovations to existing buildings and infrastructure.

The plan calls for the use of the Snoqualmie Middle School building as part of Mount Si High School sometime in the future. Boundary lines would change so all middle school students would attend either Chief Kanim or Twin Falls, whose capacity would be boosted by the addition of modular classrooms.

Due to slowed enrollment growth, extra space at the middle school level, and sensitivity to the current state of the economy, this solution provides an affordable, first-step approach to meeting the district’s facilities needs, according to the district.

“It is a near-term solution that fits into a 10-year plan with flexibility to run other bonds for schools when enrollment necessitates,” a district release stated.
