In the writings of the late Cleo Soister, you can find a snapshot of how small American newspapers like the Snoqualmie Valley Record gathered and presented news to their communities.
Cleo, wife and partner of former, longtime publisher Robert Soister, never got formal recognition alongside her husband’s name in the masthead – the box that notes the name of the publisher and staff that you can find in every edition of the Valley Record.
But between the lines, community members who worked with Cleo remember a caring woman with a strong connection to the Valley.
A Fall City resident who died Sunday, Dec. 2, at age 84, Cleo’s connection with the Valley Record came through her husband, a sales associate who worked for the paper starting in 1950. Together, they worked at the newspaper for 34 years.
