The Snoqualmie Valley School District board of directors looked at options for two levies, covering maintenance, operations and technology, coming next February.

The board is expected to take action on placing those levies on the ballot at its Thursday, Oct. 22, meeting. If approved, ballots would go out Jan. 22.

While no dollar figure has been set for the maintenance and operations levy, the technology levy will likely total about $10 million, or 38 cents per $1,000 in property value.

The district’s technology levy is aimed at improving student learning, maximizing teacher effectiveness, and improving safety and communications programs.

The district’s 22-person Technology Advisory Committee called for the four-year levy, collecting about $2.5 million per year from 2011 to 2014 to upgrade district systems.

Because technology is not currently included in the state’s definition of basic education virtually all funds for school technology and training must come from voters.

The district completed its high speed fiber optic network in 2005, funded by a 2003 bond. Consequently, infrastructure is in good shape and ready to support new technology.
