Kristy Sullivan of Redmond announced her resignation from the Snoqualmie Valley School District board of directors on Monday, Oct. 27.

Sullivan has served on the school board for the past 12 years, representing Fall City and surrounding areas in Director District 5.

“It has truly been an honor to serve on the school board. However, I believe it is time to allow someone with a fresh perspective and passion to share in the leadership of this outstanding district,” Sullivan said through a statement released by the district.

Sullivan, who is also director of the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network, said she will focus on other work.

“There are some exciting opportunities now for me to be more engaged at the state level to advocate for coordinated school health issues and to promote wellness throughout our communities. I am very proud of what we have accomplished as a learning community in my 12 years of service and I look forward to a bright future for Snoqualmie Valley schools.”

School District Superintendent Joel Aune praised the outgoing director.

“She is deeply committed to the youth of this community and has always kept them at the forefront of her work as a school board member. Her insight, experience, dedication and compassion will be missed,” he said.

District policy stipulates that when a director resigns, the school board must take official action at its next meeting; the district anticipated that the board would accept Sullivan’s resignation on Nov. 13.

The process and timeline for filling the vacancy will be on the district Web site, www.svsd410.org, and in local newspapers. Following a notice period, the remaining board members will appoint an applicant to serve as a replacement until the next regularly scheduled board election in November of 2009.

Board member Rudy Edwards recently announced that he will step down from the board in November of 2009, his 20th year of service.

Edwards represents Director District 1, but upon retiring from his career as a forest ranger, moved into District 2, which is represented by school board member Caroline Loudenback. Policy allows him to serve out the remainder of his term though he no longer resides in the sub-district he represents.
