The Snoqualmie Valley School District board of directors proudly presented 10 teachers with certificates of appreciation for earning National Board Certification this year.

The ten were honored on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the school board meeting. Their efforts bring the total number of board-certified instructors in the district to 16. Board certification means that the teachers have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.

National Board Certification teachers in the Snoqualmie Valley School District include:

• Melanie Culver, Cascade View Elementary, third grade

• Joyce Delurme, Cascade View Elementary, second grade

• Rick Flanangan, North Bend Elementary, fifth grade

• Eric Goldhammer, Mount Si High School, language arts

• Alison Means, Chief Kanim Middle School, seventh grade science

• Anne Melgaard, North Bend Elementary, third grade

• Shari Myers, North Bend Elementary, fourth grade

• Andrew Rapin, Mount Si High School, science

• Jacqueline Ross, Cascade View Elementary, first grade

• John Spiess, Twin Falls Middle School, eighth grade science

Gerald Bopp, Ruth Huschle, Christine Kjenner, Tracy Petroske, John Pinkser and Gayle Smith had previously earned board certification.

“In a congressionally mandated study, National Board Certification was recently recognized by the National Research Council as having a positive impact on student achievement, teacher retention, and professional development,” stated Joel Aune, district superintendent, in a staff newsletter.
