20th season tour includes Valley plays

Audiences in Fall City can see two of William Shakespeare’s greatest hits performed on the boards in their community this summer.

Fall City Park will be the venue for performances of “Hamlet” and “Twelfth Night” by the traveling GreenStage acting company.

The summer of 2008 marks GreenStage’s 20th year of presenting free Shakespeare in the Park. Hamlet, directed by Susanna Wilson and starring Shawn Law in the title role, and Twelfth Night, directed by longtime GreenStage company member Amelia Meckler, run from July 11 through August 16 in parks in and around the Northwest.

Since 1989, GreenStage has been presenting high-quality theatrical productions free to the public. The company has presented all but five of the plays in Shakespeare’s canon, as well as many other classic plays. Both plays in the 2008 summer season have significant meaning to the company. Another milestone reached this summer is the presentation of the 50th production mounted by the company.

Holding the distinction of being the area’s longest running Shakespeare Company, GreenStage has produced 33 of the 38 plays in Shakespeare’s canon and several new works.

The mission of GreenStage is to inspire audiences to engage in live theater as part of their recreation. The company always performs for free, collecting voluntary donations after performances.
