Cleaning up the massive amount of debris from the January flood began in earnest on Friday morning, Jan. 9, as groups of trucks began lining up on Falls Avenue in downtown Snoqualmie with beds full of soaked sofas, ruined electronics and other detritus.

The city of Snoqualmie had set up a debris disposal site on the King Street lot adjoining Sahara Pizza and Sandy Cove Park. As volunteers signed in, city workers unloaded debris into earthmovers, quickly filling up large trash containers at the site.

Mike Roy, operations manager for the city, said the disposal site was expected to remain open through the week.

A future drop off site at Centennial Fields, 39903 Southeast Park Street, is also expected to be organized. Roy said the city may also set up a home pick-up system to help homebound residents.

North Bend

A special collection site for residential garbage and debris from the recent flood will be operation from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 10. and 11, at the North Bend Public Works Yard, 1155 E. North Bend Way. This free service is available to Allied Waste and Kent-Meridian Disposal customers in North Bend and surrounding King County.

This collection site is only for personal property and effects damaged from the flood. Neither plant materials nor home electronics that can be recycled will be collected. Hazardous wastes and paints will not be collected, either. King County is organizing a visit from the Wastemobile, and will notify residents when a date is set.

Users should bring some form of identification indicating residence within the designated service area.
