SNOQUALMIE – Snoqualmie’s headache over annexing land may get a remedy from the state Legislature.

The Legislature sent a bill to the governor earlier this week that would change the way cities can annex land in Washington, a move that could help resolve a year-long battle Snoqualmie has waged to annex property in its urban growth area.

Snoqualmie Attorney Pat Anderson said he has not seen the bill yet, but is optimistic about what it can do for the city if it is passed.

“We will review the bill and hopefully it will fit our needs,” he said.

Senate Bill 5409 would allow a city to annex land if it can get signatures from landowners who own a majority of the acreage of the land the city wants to annex and signatures from a majority of the registered voters who live on the land.

Cities that want to the annex land with no residents, such as Snoqualmie, need to get only signatures from landowners who own a majority of the acreage of the land the city wants to annex.
