Snoqualmie City Hall will go pitch black for an hour this weekend as a recognition of global Earth Hour.

Light go out at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26. This is the third year in which Snoqualmie has officially taken part in the event.

King County is also taking part, shutting down power at its non-essential facilities for Earth Hour. King County Executive Dow Constantine signed a proclamation in support of Earth Hour 2011. Lights will stay on where needed at County facilities for public safety, security and essential operations.

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour has become a global sustainability movement with millions of individuals, businesses, and organizations, and more than 100 countries and territories registered for 2011.

World landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Rome’s Colosseum stood in darkness last year as symbols of the need to conserve energy and protect the earth’s environment.
