Snoqualmie commission to take testimony on future zoning of Old Mill site

The Snoqualmie Planning Commission will take citizen testimony on future zoning of the former Snoqualmie Falls lumber mill site and surroundings, now being considered for annexation into the city of Snoqualmie, at a 7 p.m. Monday, May 2, public hearing at City Hall.

Snoqualmie is considering annexation of 600 acres of the Mill Planning Area, centered on the former lumber mill.

The planning commission’s zoning recommendation “would definitely control what kind of uses were allowed, and how the property could be developed,” Snoqualmie Planning Director Nancy Tucker said. “But it really starts with the comp plan.”

The Snoqualmie Comprehensive Plan already denotes how the mill planning area, which is part of the city’s urban growth area, would fit into Snoqualmie’s future.

Under the comprehensive plan, the area is slated for commercial or industrial use, except for floodway areas, which are slated for parks or open space. A portion of the property includes the Old Mill Adventure Park and DirtFish Rally School.

Last month, City Administrator Bob Larson suggested that the area could be used for the creation of high-tech jobs.

Planning commissioners will hear public testimony and may address issues of zoning, but are not expected to address concerns regarding the annexation itself.

Snoqualmie City Council has final authority to proceed with annexation.

Written comments may be submitted to the City of Snoqualmie, PO Box 987, Snoqualmie, WA 98065, to the attention of Planning Director Nancy Tucker, on or before 4 p.m. Monday.

The proposed Pre-annexation Zoning Ordinance for the properties is available for public review at city hall, and is posted at www.ci.snoqualmie.wa.us. A copy can also be obtained by contacted city staff at (425) 888-5337.
