The Snoqualmie City Council approved the low-bid offer for its major downtown infrastructure renewal project at its Monday, Feb. 22, regular meeting.

Issaquah-based Sanders General Construction will receive $2.3 million for the job, scheduled to begin this spring.

The city received about a dozen bids, opening them in a well-attended ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 11, in council chambers.

“It was very exciting bid opening,” Snoqualmie Public Works Director Dan Marcinko said. “Everybody was interested to see the outcome.”

By law, the city must select the lowest qualified bidder in order to make efficient use of taxpayer funds.

Sanders’ bid is within the budget for the project. However, Marcinko cautioned that extra costs could be encountered.

“When you are digging with underground infrastructure in a historic district, you don’t know what you are going to encounter,” he said.

The project will renovate the downtown block and add new street trees, sidewalks, bury utilities and upgrade infrastructure.

Traffic will be flagged on a single-lane Falls Avenue during construction.

The city is working with business owners to coordinate parking and minimize supply and service disruptions during the work, which will start in April and extend to November.
