Snoqualmie Valley School District’s second run at a middle school construction bond is in trouble, early results showed late Tuesday. The $56 million construction bond was failing at 55.65 percent approval, the initial count, made at 8:15 p.m., showed.

With about 48 percent of total ballots counted, the bond had 5708 “yes” votes and 4549 “no” votes.

School bond measures need a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

Proposition 1, which would build a replacement middle school for SMS and perform improvements at a number of other schools, failed in February with 59.99 percent of the vote.

First-day results for the April 26 school bond vote show a huge increase in negative votes, compared to the final counts from the Feb. 8 election.

As of 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 284 more people had voted than in the Feb. 8 election, and the number of “yes” votes was down 264 from the final numbers in February. On the “no” side, there were 566 more votes than in the Feb. 8 election.

Note, these numbers do not reflect the two additional “yes” votes that were added to the count during the March 3 recount.
