The city of Snoqualmie is looking at the future — and wants residents involved. To that end, the Snoqualmie Planning Commission hosts a series of community forums about sustainability issues related to planning for future growth, energy, environmental health, land use, and development in the city.

The next Sustainability Speakers Forum, themed “The Electric Slide & the Green Side: Energy, water, and green buildings,” is 7 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Snoqualmie City Hall.

Presenters will discuss the future of regional and local energy production, green building practices, water conservation, and how to save energy — and money — around the house.

Green forums

“Sustainability has always been at the heart of planning for Snoqualmie. It deals with the central question of what we’re about as a city and the future that we want for our children,” said Mayor Matt Larson. “To make that vision a reality, you have to look at the economy, environment, and our community as a whole.”

Speakers will be local and regional experts who will discuss sustainability topics related to planning for a green community.

“The Planning Commission hopes participants will find the sessions educational, but also interactive and relevant to the Snoqualmie community,” said Trapper Bailey, Chair of the Snoqualmie Planning Commission. “We want to communicate how sustainability relates to city government and long-range planning. We also hope to touch on ways that citizens can become more sustainable in their own lives in a realistic and cost-effective manner.”
