Snoqualmie is among 1,500 cities worldwide that have pledged to turn out their lights for one hour, 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28.

Valley residents and business owners may participate by switching off their lights for “Earth Hour.”

Non-essential services in the city will go dark, but police, fire, water and other vital departments will stay powered.

The event is a global statement of concern about climate change and environmental commitment.

Groups including teachers’ associations, Boy Scout groups, the World Wildlife Fund and the United Nations Secretary-General have supported the hour of darkness.
