The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe announced plans Thursday, Aug. 25, to improve traffic safety and access along S.E. North Bend Way near the Snoqualmie Casino, by installing a new traffic circle and entrance to the reservation property, just west of the existing entrance to Snoqualmie Casino off Interstate 90.
The traffic circle is expected to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle speeds, improving traffic flow into and out of the area.
Snoqualmie Tribe traffic and engineering consultants will meet with King County officials Aug. 3o to discuss design and engineering, the permitting process, and fees. The announcement also stated that the tribe will pay all costs associated with the project.
“As the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe pursues responsible development of our business enterprises, it is our responsibility to improve safety for all travelers, visitors and employees,” said Steve De Los Angeles, of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribal Council. “This project will serve the community, providing better and safer access to the Snoqualmie Indian Reservation, our businesses and the thousands of visitors we welcome every year.”
Construction on the traffic circle will likely begin in spring or summer 2017.
The Tribe is also building a new convenience store, adjacent to the casino and the tobacco and liquor store. Construction will not affect operations at the existing businesses.
The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is a federally recognized tribe. Known as the People of the Moon, Snoqualmie tribal members were signatories to the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855.
