Dan Marcinko is going from building drug stores to overseeing public works for all of Snoqualmie.

As the new public works director for the city of Snoqualmie, Marcinko’s first day of work is Monday, March 2.

Stepping into a role formerly held by Kirk Holmes, who took a new position last summer, and currently filled by Interim Public Works Director Alan Lobdell, Marcinko said he’s excited and ready for his new job.

Marcinko is currently regional construction manager for Walgreens, helping the company open 600 stores a year from his Chicago office.

He hasn’t always built drug stores, though. His resume includes 13 years in municipal government. Before Walgreens, he was public works head for the city of McHenry, Ill. Here, he will oversee infrastructure such as water, sewers, roads and vehicles that directly impacts residents’ lives.

“We are in the forefront, just working with the community as a whole, trying to make it a nice place to live and raise families,” Marcinko said.

For Lobdell, Marcinko’s first priority in Snoqualmie would be to learn the varied city, county and state rules and regulations at play here.

“That’s going to be a big deal right there,” he said.
