The Spotted Owl folk art gallery in North Bend will hold a series of artistic events and workshops this spring. Events include the following:
• Introduction to hand carving and whittling, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Participants can learn to carve small figurines, animal forms and decorative tool handles, making things to represent their family history, favorite story, animal or place. The $75 cost includes the purchase of one carving knife and wood.
• Songwriter’s workshop, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20. Participants can learn to write lyrics, music, or complete songs, finding their community voice in this free event. This includes creating Native American songs in a Salish language and writing contemporary songs with deep roots in Northwest history.
• Introduction to drawing, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Participants can learn to draw people, animals and landscapes, and explore different uses of line and texture with charcoal, pencil, pen and ink. A $50 cost per person includes paper and drawing utensils.
