Statewide forum for OSPI, Lands Commissioner candidates to be held in Seattle

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County and the League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund will co-host a public forum for candidates in the races for Commissioner of Public Lands and Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County and the League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund will co-host a public forum for candidates in the races for Commissioner of Public Lands and Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Candidates for each statewide office will discuss campaign issues and answer questions posed by a moderator Ann Dornfeld, education reporter for KUOW, and from the audience. The forum will start at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Quincy Jones Performance Center, Garfield High School, 400 23rd Ave., Seattle.

Hilary Franz and Steve McLaughlin, both running for Commissioner of Public Lands, will discuss issues affecting the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, such as aquatic lands, mining, and forest management.

Erin Jones and Chris Reykdal, both running for Superintendent of Public Instruction, will discuss performance standards, funding and equity among school districts.

The forum is open to the public. It will also be televised by TVW and shown within two days at the TVW web site, www.TVW.org.
