Big improvements are coming to Duvall’s Main Street between Ring Street and Big Rock Road. After years of design, permitting, and preparation work, the “S.R. 203 Safety Improvements and Road Reconstruction” project is about to begin and will improve about 4,200 feet of Main Street South.
The $8 million construction project will connect to existing improvements, including the 2009 downtown improvements, 2013 centennial project, and last year’s culvert and bridge construction at Coe-Clemons Creek.
Sidewalks, bike lanes and lighting will be added, while utility lines will be moved underground. Affected sections of Thayer Creek, where it crosses the road, will be restored as part of the project.
A special project is planned for the corner of N.E. 143rd, due to the stream restoration work.
Duvall Project Manager Shaun Tozer explained that the property owners donated land on the future Rosenbach Corner, needed to complete the stream restoration and replanting. The corner will feature a pedestrian refuge and observation area for the newly restored Thayer Creek.
After receiving eight bids for the project in late July, the city awarded the construction contract to Interwest Construction of Burlington. Construction is expected to begin in early September.
The city has allocated 300 working days for the project and, accounting for holiday closures and potential flooding events, anticipates the work will be complete in early 2018.
Anyone driving on Main Street throughout the project should expect construction-related traffic delays and use alternate routes.
Typical construction delays will involve single-lane closures, controlled by flaggers. A full road closure near N.E. 143rd Place will occur next summer for the installation of a culvert crossing for Thayer Creek.
The city of Duvall will post updates on the project on its website, www.duvallwa.gov and Facebook page. For more information and to ask questions, contact Tozer at (425) 788-3434 or send email to shaun.tozer@duvallwa.gov.
