More than 100 works by local children, from preschoolers to teens, get gallery space at the upcoming Arts in Festival Hall exposition, part of The Festival at Mount Si.

“We’re celebrating the arts for the whole community,” said Crystal Prins, a North Bend parent and festival hall committee member. “Young artists are the future. It’s something we wanted to make sure was part of this festival.”

Art on display includes works from Encompass, Snoqualmie Middle School, Chief Kanim Middle School, North Bend Elementary, Twin Falls Middle School and Mount Si High School.

Festival organizers called for pieces from all local elementary and middle schools, and worked with art teachers to bring in pieces. Art was also solicited at the two June signings of the North Bend Centennial Birthday Card.

Art ranges from simple pencil drawings to water colors, acrylics and oils. Some pieces came from school assignments or originated with the young artists themselves.

Subjects run the gamut of a child’s imagination. Some are more personal choices, from a portrait of a pet to profiles of favorite video game characters.

Prins is a volunteer in Valley schools, who has worked to promote the arts in elementary classrooms.

She has a passion to see children develop their artistic talent.

“As we develop the art community in our town, we want to see them involved and continuing to contribute,” Prins said.
