David John Shea was born on January 23, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to David and Catharine (Maney) Shea. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington where he attended Bellarmine Prep. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in economics from Western Washington University and a Master’s Degree from Seattle University.
David began working for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich as soon as he graduated and spent his career working in the college textbook sales division. David was an avid fisherman and crabber. He often took his wife, children and grandchildren out on his boat in the Puget Sound. He was also an accomplished woodworker. As he neared retirement, he built a nursery and sold Japanese maples which he grafted by his own hand. He was generous with his time and gave back to his community in many ways. Most recently, he and his wife were volunteered at the North Bend Food Bank. He also volunteered in the juvenile justice system.
David is survived by his wife, Margaret (Deeley Duff) Shea; daughters, Angela Mitchell (Mark), Catherine Matthews (Scott), Patricia Shea, and Judy Shea; stepson, Andrew Duff (Courtney Meehan); sister Monica Shull (Donald), brother John Shea (Lael); grandchildren Nathan Donaldson, Alden Duff, Kenneth Krueger, Abigail Krueger, Shannan Matthews, Kelly Mitchell and Kristina Mitchell; great grandchild, Elijah Goode; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Marita Stull; and stepson, John Duff.
A celebration of life is planned for 3pm on January 20, 2018 at Flintoft’s Funeral Home.
Rather than flowers, the family asks you make a donation in David’s name to the North Bend Food Bank.
