Leslie Reinig Norton

Leslie died peacefully at her home in Bothell at age 94, attended by her daughters. Leslie was the second of three children born to Dionis G. Reinig and Hadassah Knapp Reinig in Snoqualmie, WA. and she was the granddaughter of Seattle pioneers Leonard Reinig and Margarethe Schafer Reinig. She grew up in Snoqualmie on the property her grandparents purchased in 1890 when they moved from their Seattle home at the corner of 5th and Madison. She treasured family history and family connections all her life.Leslie graduated from Snoqualmie HS, attended WSU and graduated from the UW with a degree in bacteriology. She worked in the lab at Maynard Hospital and later as a journalist for the Snoqualmie Valley Record. She married John (Jack) Norton in 1949 and they moved to their Bothell home in 1950. Jack established a CPA practice and Leslie was a devoted mother and home maker, active in PTA and Camp Fire. She later worked in the accounting practice with Jack. She and Jack were founding members of the Northlake Unitarian Church in Kirkland and she was a member of the Washington Park Arboretum Unit #5. Leslie loved nature, plants, wildlife and was a life-long gardener. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed water color painting and collecting textiles. Her intellectual curiosity was insatiable and her interest in politics and issues of the day prompted many letters and lively conversations. She was close to her daughters and encouraged them and her grandchildren in their activities. Beloved mother of Mary Norton (Joe McElroy) of Snoqualmie and Leslie Norton (David Clodfelter) of Seattle. Loving grandmother to Lindsey McElroy, Ann McElroy and Peter Clodfelter. Predeceased by her husband Jack in 1979 and her sister Margarethe “Peggy” Reinig Jones (Grandview, WA) in 1988. Leslie is also survived by her brother Edward “Ted” Reinig (Carole) of Snohomish, nieces and nephews in Washington and Nevada and a wide circle of friends. We wish to thank her good neighbors Karen and Steve, and her devoted caregivers Rosella, Diane, Christine and Debby for their friendship and care. We would also like to thank Home Instead (Lynnwood) and Evergreen Hospital Hospice for their support. Celebration of Life to be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 2PM at Monte Villa Farmhouse, 3300 Monte Villa Parkway, Bothell, WA. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Washington Park Arboretum Foundation.
