Nina Gertrude Beaubien
June 6, 1917 – January 30, 2009Nina passed away at Val Verde Retirement Community in Santa Barbara, California. She had moved there in August, 2002 to be near her son and his family. Prior to that she lived in Snoqualmie for 53 years.Nina was born to Roy and Frances Rasey in St. Paul, Minnesota. She became a school teacher after graduating from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1938. Her first hear teach-ing position was in the Northern Minnesota town of Kelliher. During that year she met Glen, the head of the local branch of the U.S. Forest Service. They were wed at the end of the school year on June 10, 1939. They moved to Snoqualmie in 1940 to join Nina’s brother and sister-in law, Red and Lillian Rasey and her mother Frances who had arrived earlier. When WWII broke out in 1941, Nina and Glen moved to Seattle where Glen worked for Boeing. It was in Seattle that their children were born during the war. In 1950 the opportunity arose to move back to Snoqualmie, and the family did so, settling in Meadowbrook. Glen took a job at Weyerhauser and Nina was a homemaker until 1960 when she went to work for Dr. Whitaker at the Snoqualmie clinic. By 1964 resumed her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher. She continued at that until her retirement in 1984. She truly loved teaching and was committed to doing the best for her students.Nina was a member of the Snoqualmie United Methodist Church. In addition to teaching Sunday school, she played the organ and directed the choir for many years, She loved her music.Nina was preceded in death by her two brothers and sister, as well as her husband Glen. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Nielsen, son-in-law Dennis and their children Glen Nielsen and Kristi Nielsen. She is survived as well by her son Philip, daughter-in-law Gillian and grandchildren Jennifer Gottardi, Alissa and Sarah Sears. She leaves as well five great-grandchildren: Megan and Christopher Nielsen, Arthur Beaubien, Elizabeth and Maverick Gottardi. All her family sends her on her way with love.A memorial service for Nina will be held at the Snoqualmie United Methodist Church on February 14 at 2:00pm.
