Richard George Krona (“Rick”) passed away on July 29, 2021 with family at his bedside.

Rick was born to Charles, “Chuck,” and Joan Krona on March 24, 1955 in Tacoma, WA. Seven days later, the family moved to the Snoqualmie Valley, a place Rick would call home his entire life.

Rick graduated summa cum laude from Mount Si High School in 1973. During his high school career, Rick was heavily involved in academics and extracurricular activities. He played multiple sports, including wrestling and football. He received three All-League awards in football. Rick also participated in youth leadership activities with the YMCA, including camp counseling and life guarding at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island, as well as, life guarding at the Si View pool.

Rick next attended the University of Puget Sound where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. While at Puget Sound, he studied abroad in Europe before graduating with an honors degree in Accounting.

After college, Rick joined the family business, Krona & Krona, CPAs, in Snoqualmie, earning his CPA license in 1979. Rick then married Rebecca, “Becki,” Hall and had two children, Rochelle and Chris who also graduated from Mount Si. His love for education and supporting youth led him to join the SVSD school board. He served the school district for over 20 years, the majority of his tenure as board president. Rick touched the lives of many members of the community as a hometown whiz kid and football star, a local business owner, and dedicated public servant.

Rick enjoyed spending time with family, especially at Christmas. While he loved other holidays too, Christmas was his favorite. He was known for throwing lavish Christmas parties and thoroughly decorating his house in North Bend. He also appreciated a good story. He was an avid reader of thriller novels and frequented the Seattle Repertory Theater as a season ticket holder. He had a strong interest in history, making him difficult to beat in trivia contests.

Rick was preceded by his mother, Joan. He is survived by his father, Chuck, brothers, David, and John, daughter, Rochelle, son, Chris, two granddaughters, and several nephews and a niece. He will be missed by them all.

A memorial service is being held at the Mt. Si Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, September 11 at 2pm. A reception will follow at Si View park under the picnic shelter.
