In Loving Memory:
Robert Henry Ackerman (Bob)
Memorial services for Robert Ackerman were held February 13 and February 15, 2010, with burial following at the Dusty Cemetery. Bob died unexpectedly at Arizona Regional Hospital in Yuma, AZ on February 4, 2010. Born January 7, 1931 in Colfax, WA, he attended Endicott HS then WSC (now WSU). Upon graduation in 1953 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. While at WSC he met the love of his life, A. Marie Tyrrell, and married her on August 16, 1953. Bob flew with USAF and WA Air Nat’l Guard for 20 years, in several fighter jets and an in-air refueling tanker, retiring as Lt. Colonel. Concurrently he had a 25 year career flying for United Airlines, retiring as B747-400 Captain in 1991.When not in the air he loved working in his shop, wandering through a flea market, visiting with friends, or taking an afternoon nap. He made the rounds visiting his four daughters, loving them and their families while assisting with the ever-present “honey-do” lists. Bob’s many friends brought much joy to his life (not to mention an excuse to get away from the dreaded paperwork!) Bob was preceded to heaven by parents, Hank and Betty Ackerman; wife of 50 joyful years, A. Marie; and sister, Janet (Ackerman) Lytle. He is survived by four daughters, Laura Burnside-McElligott (Tom) of Heppner, OR; Robin Legg (Dennis) of Sisters, OR; Ann Petzel (Jim) of Evergreen, CO; Lisa Emtman (Randy) of Valleyford, WA; brother, Richard Ackerman (Ji) of Richland, WA.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.His family suggests that memorials and remembrances be made to: Snoqualmie Church of the Nazarene, AWANA; CEF; Young Life; RBC Ministries and FCA.
