About a month ago, a friend of mine who volunteers for Valley Voters for Education (VVFE) asked me if I would host a “Let’s Bond” coffee. Essentially what this meant was that in the comfort of my own home and surrounded by my dear friends and some tasty treats, I had the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of VVFE representatives, Facilities Task Force members and our own superintendent Joel Aune regarding the school bond we will vote on Feb. 6, 2007.
Some of those present at the coffee had attended the meetings held by the Facilities Task Force to learn how they determined the bond requirements for our district, but many had not. Regardless of prior knowledge coming in to the coffee, it was a truly insightful conversation for all who were there. Superintendent Aune provided very detailed, thorough and nonbiased answers to our questions. Task force members gave us a brief look into the research they conducted and realities they learned in their almost year long search for a solution to provide the best education and facilities for our children. Some questions posed that morning I had heard before at task force meetings. However, many that surfaced were new and created a windfall of ideas, as well as more questions – all really helpful in understanding the awesome needs our growing district must address if it hopes to effectively educate our children.
I encourage any of you that have questions regarding the school bond to host a coffee, or at a minimum, attend one that you are invited to. In our busy lives where time is so valuable, please make this a priority for yourself. It was well worth the time invested. For more information regarding the bond, hosting a coffee or getting involved, please visit www.VVFE.org or the district Web site at http://www.snoqualmie.wednet.edu/ and click on Facilities Task Force Information. Let’s all “bond” over coffee with friends – it can be quite an eye opener.
