During the Falls Crossing deliberation meetings being held currently
by the city staff, planning commissioners and developer (Puget Western),
we have heard from a parade of experts, paid for by the developer. The
topics covered ranged from water quality, water rights/availability, water
drainage, traffic, viewshed and archaeology.
But, we never heard from an expert on fish and wildlife. Is this
because someone may be concerned of the result of such a study?
According to the city staff report, this is how wildlife would be
honored; if a pair of pileated woodpeckers are found nesting, leave the trees until
the nesting period is over, then go in and chop them down.
The fish will be adversely affected by the runoff of oils, chemicals
and fertilizers from the roofs, cars, parking lots and lawns, as these agents
will end up in the river.
Since the fish in our rivers are endangered and the birds in our
forests are threatened, I feel there should be no development on these
sensitive lands.
P.S. I will change from P.S.E. to another energy company as soon as
it is possible to do so.
