The Board of Directors for the Riverview School District is asking
for your vote of approval for a physical education and athletic sports field
on the Nov. 7 election.
When the construction of Cedarcrest High School was
approved, a decision was made to use Miller Field at Tolt Middle School for
athletic competition and a play field at CHS for PE classes. Miller Field
has served this district and the community well, and will continue to be a key
asset for our students.
We now have a student population almost double that of when CHS
was conceived, and Miller Field and a play field no longer meet the needs of
our students. PE and sports programs are an intergral part of our students’
education, and I am especially proud of our track team taking state honors
for academic performance.
Our proposal is for an all-weather track and multipurpose
soccer/football field, aluminum bleachers,
restrooms and a concession stand located next to CHS. In this plan for $2.9
million, you will not find a stadium, but the essentials needed for the education and
safety of our students.
I am asking the community to support this plan while we continue
to work on grants to add a baseball field and tennis courts. Your “yes” vote
will generate countless opportunities for the young people of our Valley
for many years to come.
