How to pick the perfect Hair do

Donna takes a look at happenings in Snoqualmie

School is now back in session, and as adults we no longer have

to wistfully watch the kids having fun in the sun while we are

super-glued to our desks.

Sparky and Stella have been coming closer and closer to coming

to blows! Stella keeps taking a run at Sparky challenging him to

a fight (more from being a kitten than meanness), and Sparky

doesn’t want to back down anymore, as he doesn’t consider that

the manly thing to do. So I have begun to feel like a referee

while yelling at poor Sparky to back off and trying to convince

Stella she really doesn’t want to play with big bad Sparky.

Are you searching for a new hair-do or hair color? Go onto the

Web site www.vstyle.hypermart.net where you can pay a visit to

virtual hairstyling and either use the faces the program provides

or scan in your own photo to see yourself on-screen in a salon

full of different styles and colors. Then print it out and head

to the hairdresser!

My Mom and her siblings were raised in Texas so I thought of

them when I found this recipe – Texas toast. In bowl combine 6

tbsp. tomato paste, 1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese, 3 tbsp. oil

(olive oil is best), 1 tbsp. dried basil, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

and 1/2 tsp. salt and mix until smooth. Spread this mixture

evenly over both sides of bread (1″ thick slices are best).

Grill bread, turning once, until toasted, approximately 2 minutes

each side.

“To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved

by someone deeply gives you courage.”

I absolutely hate to peel carrots but recently heard of a way

to get out of that. Put your carrots in a small colander and

place in a pan of boiling water. Turn the heat off and let sit

for five minutes. Then transfer the carrots to cold water and

drain. The skins slide off with fingers, saving your fingers from

being cut up by vegetable peelers.

Really corny joke of the week: Why did the car stop in

the middle of the road? It was wheely, wheely tired!

One of the things I look forward to in the fall is not having

to deal with hornets and wasps. There seems to be a surplus of

the little devils this year, and I have been stung six times

where in the past I do not remember being stung.

They managed to get me three different times while mowing my

lawn, and one time it caused by leg to swell up to three times

its normal size. They like to sting over and over, and I think

the hot weather and the sound of the lawn mower made them

irritable. I told my Dad I was traumatized by being stung and

could never mow my lawn ever again, but he did not fall for that

one.

If your teens have a new pair of jeans for school, you can

take the stiffness out of them by running them through the washer

with detergent and a half cup of table salt before wearing.

Voila! One happy teenager!

I see street lights are being installed in the Ridge which

thrills me very much to know I can continue walking in the fall

and have some light. I tend to look for the boogeyman over my

shoulders when I walk in the dark. I know a lot of people will

feel safer having lights on their exercise route.

If you haven’t ridden the train lately, head over to the old

depot and take a ride! We all tend to look for fun activities

elsewhere, and I feel by enjoying local sights and activities, it

can give us a new outlook on our town.
