Finally, something that will benefit the working class and those
on retirement with fixed incomes (Initiative 695). For the elderly, it could
pay a light bill or two. A young family might use the money to buy
school clothes for the kids.
The money will be circulated and used. The state will still collect a
lot of money via sales tax. The big difference here is they will not be getting
a huge sum all at once. I wonder how often we wind up funding
someone’s pet project that has little or no value to the average taxpayer. Rather
than use the money for something we need, I tend to think they just sit on it
and wait for more money.
Do we really need to change the King County logo? I’m not
saying Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. isn’t worthy of honors. Changing the
logo would cost an estimated three to four million dollars. There has to be a
more practical use for that much money.
The taxpayers must find a way to make our local government more
accountable financially, or we have nothing to look forward to but more of
the same: ever higher taxes and a reduced standard of living for most of us.
