A snagged pass and a desperate toss handed the Cedarcrest boys basketball team a wild victory during play, Friday, Jan. 21, at Archbishop Murphy.

The Red Wolves led in the first quarter, 11-6, and in the second quarter, 24-22, but fell behind in the third, which ended 33-38.

Down by seven in the final 90 seconds, Cedarcrest’s Andrew Alness made three consecutive three-pointers to keep things in play. Archbishop Murphy responded with baskets of their own, but with a second left on the clock, Cedarcrest’s Zach Taylor fired a desperation shot from half court. The ball went through the hoop at the buzzer, and fans in the packed, loud gym frenzied. The final score was 50-48.

“I have nothing else to say other than ‘Wow!’ coach Micah Rieke told the Record.

Colton Rekers and Taylor each had 15 points. Alness finished with 13 points—nine of those in the last 90 seconds. Taylor had six steals, and Alness led the team in rebounds with seven. Chris Dowd and Taylor each had three assists.

The Cedarcrest Boys host South Whidbey Friday, Jan. 28.
